In Hézo, they may not have a harbour, but they’ve got ideas… and plenty of mud! This town, a partner of the Gulf of Morbihan Week since its very first edition, has successfully showcased its inland attractions to make this stopover one of the most quirky and cheerful of the event!
Since 2007, in fact, people have been travelling from far and wide to take part in the ‘World Clog Championship’. These clogs (the mud equivalent of snowshoes) were once used to gather clams and periwinkles.
An event was organised around this traditional use… It has since become a zany competition open to everyone! Some prepare very seriously for months, others turn up in fancy dress, whilst many just wing it. And everyone’s there to have a laugh!
A lovely walk through these landscapes—part coastal, part inland—is also on offer.
After all that exertion, there’s singing and the cosy atmosphere of a traditional open-air café.
Nearly 200 volunteers and local organisations will be organising this joyful madness in 2027.
