Its goal is to preserve the coastal culture and the historical maritime heritage. The federation intends to protect old boats (from small boats to steamboats) and the harbor and coastal environment (pontoons, sheds, lighthouses, shipyards). It also aims to make a better understanding of the human and cultural traditions’ value, to reintroduce and develop some traditional practices inside the economic activity, manual labors, navigation and ways of life, and to improve maintenance techniques and boats security.
Apart from boats’ maintenance, it works on boats usage daily. KYSTEN is composed of 10 000 members located in 126 local teams on all the edge of Norway. It is one of the local branches, Gratangen association (Gratangen Kystlag), which was designated to organize and animate the Norwegian presence at “Semaine du Golfe”.
